Without further adieu, our 2017 MVP is Timoci Silikula! We've been watching this kid play on the youth side since he first arrived in America a few years ago. We watched him grow, both in size and in talent, and had high expectations of him this season. Plus, he was following in his father's footsteps, who is a club legend. But in his first year of adult rugby, he couldn't have played any better. As our starting inside center, Timoci was a force on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he scored five tries on the year. He had an eye for the gap and hit it at pace. His passing was at a level that most flyhalves only hope to possess and that of which we've never had at #12. His defense was punishing and perfectly legal, most of the time. After taking a hit from Timoci, ball carriers thought twice about running at him again. Timoci was named Man of the Match twice on the season. We knew he would likely only be with us for one season before a bigger club than us swooped to pick him up. And it looks like that may be happening for the kid - stay tuned to see where he ends up. And wherever that may be, they'll be lucky to have him. Timoci, we're going to miss you greatly, but good luck on your future rugby venture and congratulations on an MVP-earning season. #scrfu #rugby #usarugby #socalrugby #805 ... See MoreSee Less

A great turnout yesterday at our community outreach! The Ventura County Outlaws partnered with the United Way and the Mountains Restoration Trust to help preserve and protect the streams and creeks of the Malibu Creek Watershed. The invasive, non-native crayfish are harmful to the ecosystem of the Santa Monica Mountains - so we hunted those suckers down and removed them! Yes, we got to live out every 8-year-old's dream yesterday, all in the name of charity. Thanks to all the crayfish hunters that showed up and helped make a positive impact to the indigenous creatures that live in the creek. #805 #rugby #scrfu #socalrugby #usarugby ... See MoreSee Less

Our 2017 Outlaw of the Year is Hector De Alba! This award goes to the person who dedicates their time to the club that goes far beyond what's expected. While we have a number of players that routinely go above and beyond, Hector stood out with his enthusiasm for recruiting and the incredible job he did organizing our 7s tournament last month. The Outlaws 7s Shootout is our biggest fundraisers and has become one of the best and most organized sevens tournaments in the SCRFU. Hector personally reached out to every team in Southern California with an invite. He was first to show up to line the fields, which we think are the best sevens pitches in So Cal. He was the first to show up to line the fields and the last to leave after a day full of keeping scores (which if you've ever ran a 7s tournament, you know keeping track of all the games is no small task). Hector has been a mainstay at the club since the beginning, making it even more impressive that even though he's already given so much time to this club, he's found a way to give more. Hector has been our interim club president these last couple months and we can only hope he'll make the position permanent at our AGM this fall. Well done Hector, thanks for your time and efforts! This club is where it is today thanks to guys like you! #rugby #socalrugby #scrfu #usarugby ... See MoreSee Less

Our 2017 Forward of the Year is none other than El Presidente, Brandon Sofley. This is his third time winning Best Forward! Locks typically don't get the accolades they deserve, doing the little things that often go unnoticed. But Sofley's game stands out. His defense is punishing - there's no other word for it. He basically single-handily won us the game in our first match of the year against Huntington Beach. As they were in our 22 for the final 20 minutes, Sofley repeatedly hit their aggressive pack behind the line, almost single-handily keeping them from getting the game-winning try. He got a Man of the Match for his effort. Sofley was also effective on the offensive end, scoring four tries on the season. He also hit the 50-cap milestone this year, in addition to winning Best Forward in 2013 and 2015. Sadly, President Sofley also performed well in the real world and got himself a fancy new promotion in Los Angeles. This means he's leaving the club (again), but we have a feeling he'll be back - sooner rather than later. Congrats Sofley! #scrfu #socalrugby #usarugby #rugby ... See MoreSee Less
